Urgent Care or ER? Know When to Go
Anthony Sebastiano, DO, an Urgent Care Medicine Physician at the Holy Cross West Boca Urgent Care & Imaging Center, helps you understand when you should use urgent care centers and when you need to go to an Emergency Department.
Paolo Coll, MD, at our Boca Raton location and Kerri-Ann Hew, DO, from our Fort Lauderdale location explain the differences between using urgent care and using the emergency room, as well as differences between a hospital-affiliated urgent care center and one that is not affiliated with a hospital:
Urgent care centers affiliated with hospitals usually have more diagnostic capabilities and have the connection with a network of providers - both primary care physicians and specialists - to ensure continuity of care. Urgent care centers not affiliated with hospitals oftentimes puts the responsibility on the patient to find that continuity of care, sometimes leaving the patient vulnerable.
